BACKSTAGE of the photo shooting:
Studio154 Production ( www.studio154production.com ) was haired by Grazia Magazine to organize the logistics and assist the Fashion Photographer Andrew Yee, young and skilled international fashion photographer, in the realization of a new fashion shoot.
This year we worked very often on the Island of Capri. It’s a very fascinating photographic location that offers a multitude of view for great pictures.
A fashion set on small island logistically requires some supplementary organization and an optimized photographic equipment. So we put toghether the best portable photo equipment to move around everywhere easily.
In fact the island has very narrow streets and not all areas are accessible by car. If you want to work well and quickly you need to bring compact and easily transportable photographic equipment.
The Studio154 Production’s Assistants have setted up the photo set with battery powered flash light systems by Profoto:
– 2 Pro7b by 1200watt Profoto flash packs;
– 2 Profoto flash 1200watt strobes;
– 2 Profoto Magnum reflector.
Profoto Pro7b flashes are the most requested professional battery flash system. They are small, easy to use and provide a 1200watt flash power that allowed the photographer to place them, when necessary, to a considerable distance from the model.
We didn’t need any power supply because they work with replaceable batteries. We were free to work without mains everywhere.
The photographer chose to shoot all the photos with the ultra-reliable Canon 5D Mark II. This digital cameras with a 22 Million Pixels sensor, is fast and versatile.
Andrew used Canon lens such as Canon 70-200mm f/2.8, Canon 28-80mm f/2.8-4 , Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4.
The Digital Assistant has an “on location workstation” with Apple Mac Book Pro 17 laptop for controlling the image workflow. So while the photographer was shooting, the images were processed by the Capture One software.
Viewing photos in real-time allows the photographer to make a first selection of images, controll the correct exposure and focus of the images, make color adjustment on one or more of the pictures he had just taken.
The island of Capri is beautiful and almost completely pedestrian … so we used the quaint and picturesque local transport service move the equipment.
